Calafia's Champions are truly special people. Not only are they skilled in the arts martial, they are models of honor, chivalry and gentle behavior for the populace to emulate. As such, Adelicia and I feel that it is important that these Champions be seen in ways that reflects this status. What better ways than to have the Champions stand court with us? For all to see!
We will expect our Champions to attend all uniquely Calafian events and stand Court with us. They would also be tasked with determining the most chivalrous fighters of the day and other such arduous duties as escorting unaccompanied ladies into court. To this end, we ask that if you cannot commit to fulfilling these expectations that you not enter the Lysts for the Calafian Championship at Calafia Anniversary.
To ensure that all those whom cannot commit still get their fill of fighting at Calafia Anniversary, Duke Guillaume has consented to assemble one of those tournaments for which he is well known. One that is fun, exciting and challenging. Lady Elizabeth de Grace is willing to support this endeavor by running two separate lysts throughout the day. She would welcome assistance from those skilled and experienced in running Lysts.
So come to Calafia Anniversary and fight for the glory of being the Baronial Champion, or come and fight for the fun of fighting!
David of Caithness
Baron of Calafia
Heavy Weapons: Standard double elimination with a twist. The Baroness of Calafia can grant one extra life if she is presented with a flower. Her Excellency will then give the fighter a token, which must be recorded by Lists prior to its' closing. One field will be set up with ice flows; another will have an over the barrier fight (similar to a "pas" tourney); another will be counted blows - best two out of three; with no special set-up in the final fighting field.
Rapier:For those who wish to participate in the Calafian Rapier Championship Tourney, we will have a standard double elimination. For the first round, we will line up in two lines, with Calafians and past Calafian champions on one side, and the challengers on the other. One by one, the challengers will choice from the Calafian side the person they would like to have as their first fight, and will report to the lists. After that, the lists will continue as normal.
For those who do not wish to participate in the Calafian Rapier Championship Tourney, we will have a Mad Dog Tourney. Each fencer can challenge any other fencer to a duel. The loser will report to lists with who fought & who won each duel. You will get points for fencing, and extra points for winning duels. As fencers leave the Calafian Rapier Championship Tourney, they can join in the Mad Dog Tourney, and their fights in the Championship will count towards the Mad Dog tourney.
Unarmored:Detailed information on activities will be available the day of the event.
Youth Combat:Detailed information on activities will be available the day of the event.
Archery: This tournament is inspired and sponsored by Her Most Royal Majesty Caid, Kolfinna Kottr.
This will be a head to head, double elimination tournament. Two archers will be positioned on the thirty yard line, bow in hand, arrows in quiver, and arms at their sides. On command, the archers will draw and loose until they hit the target in front of the opposing archer. The archer whose arrow strikes the target first will be the victor. Additional details will be available onsite.
Don't forget, the winners of all methods of combat will become the Calafian Baronial Champions for the coming year.
The Calafian Youth Officers are planning fun and exciting activities for Caid's youths to enjoy.
There will be various adult activities as well. More information to follow.
Best Homemade Preserves: Please share your delicious homemade preserves. We'll have yummy bread for the taste testing!
Best Pie: In true country fair style, we're having a pie contest. If you think you make the best pie in the Barony, please bring it on! We'll be judging (and enjoying) at the feast on Saturday evening.
Best Chocolate Dessert: Who doesn't love chocolate? Please bring out your best recipes of brownies, cookies, etc. to be judged at the feast on Saturday evening.
Prizes will be given for the top Preserve, Pie, and Chocolate Dessert!
The College of Saint Artemas will be holding a Bakesale on Saturday morning, to help raise funds for the costs of recruiting this year. Diverse baked goods of all sorts will be offered, as well as warm drinks such as coffee, hot tea, hot cider, and cocoa. Stop by for a tasty treat!
For those who are camping with us, Her Excellency, Adelecia of Caithness, the Baroness of Calafia, has graciously offered to prepare breakfast on Sunday. There is no cost for this, the only requirement is that you spend the night with us.
Feast menu:
In honor of our Country Fair theme, we are having wonderfully delicious stews. Lord Methius Vaux has planned three different stews. A 12 seasonal vegetable stew in a chicken stock base; a beef stew; and a Zanzarelli stew (chicken, dumplings, cheese, in a wonderful broth. We'll have bread for dipping (and to help judge the preserve contest!). We'll have water, lemonade, and hot apple cider as well. Please remember to bring your bowls and spoons with you. But we will have bowls on hand in case you forget them.
For entertainment, the Calafian Music Guild will play for us, and Master Thomas Brownwell will be leading us in some lively dancing!
